Militants’ Missiles threats: Lagos air space, likely target

The threat by the Niger Delta Avengers (NDA), few months ago to attack Lagos may be coming next week as a new group, Joint Niger Delta Liberation Force (JNDLF) on Thursday threatened to launch six missiles in the Niger Delta region from Tuesday.

More worrisome, the militants threatened to shut down Nigerian air space, of which Lagos is among the most important aspect of the country's air space.

Though the NDA has not carried out its threat against Lagos since it started blowing up pipelines in the Niger Delta, the possibility of the new joint group of militants hitting Lagos with missiles cannot be ruled out.  The JNDLF said its fighters trained in missile attack had already arrived the region with its foreign partners.

Last week, panics engulfed Ikorodu axis of Lagos following rumours of planned invasion of Niger Delta militants to attack Lagos, of which the Commissioner of Police, Fatai Owoseni assured Lagosians of the command’s readiness to protect lives and property.

In a statement, the JNDLF said that the launching of the missiles would signal its readiness for the final breakup of the Nigeria.

Media reports say the statement was signed by people who identified  themselves as ‘General’ Torunanaowei Latei (Creek Network Coordinator); ‘General’ Agbakakuro Owei-Tauro (Pipeline Bleeding Expert); ‘General’ Akotebe Darikoro (Commander, General Duties) and ‘General’ Pulokiri Ebikade (Intelligence Bureau).
